About Bret Harte

Overview

Bret Harte Elementary School is a Kindergarten through Sixth grade public school located in between the Curtis Park and Oak Park neighborhoods of Sacramento, California. Built in 1975, the school was named for a famous American author and poet, best remembered for his short fiction featuring miners, gamblers, and other romantic figures of the California Gold Rush.

We are a close-knit campus made up of a diverse range of students, families and staff.  Our school has adopted the Common Core Stated Standards, and is a participant in the SCUSD Social & Emotional Learning initiative. We proudly provide all students with music lessons in addition to their regular studies, participate in intramural sports activities, Reading Partners (a national reading support program), and offer a Student Support Center for additional help and resources.  We have an active base of parent volunteers, a school garden, Science Technology Engineering Art and Math (STEAM) programs, and many other extracurricular opportunities.  Bret Harte is a space where all are welcome and where we work tirelessly to ensure that our students don’t just learn, but they dream and succeed!
