Our Approach

At Bret Harte Elementary, we believe in educating the whole child through engaging, rigorous, and inclusive instruction. Our curriculum is aligned with California State Standards and designed to prepare students for success in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Core Academic Programs

• English Language Arts (ELA): Science of Reading approach with Benchmark Advance, SIPPS, I-Ready and Heggerty to support early literacy and comprehension skills.

• Mathematics: Standards-based math instruction focused on problem-solving, critical thinking, and number sense, supported by Envision Math, Ready Math,  I-Ready and Building Thinking Classrooms strategies.

• Science & STEAM: Hands-on exploration using NGSS-aligned lessons and integrated STEAM projects that build curiosity and innovation.

• Social Studies: Curriculum that promotes civic awareness, cultural understanding, and historical thinking skills.

Enrichment & Support

• Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Integrated daily lessons and schoolwide PBIS practices to foster respect, responsibility, and resilience.

• Specialized Programs:

  • English Learner support services

  • Special Education programs tailored to student needs

  • Dance and Physical Education

• Technology Integration: Students have access to Chromebooks and digital tools that support 21st-century learning.

Beyond the Classroom

We partner with families, the PTA, and community organizations to extend learning beyond the school day, including after-school programs, field trips, and family literacy/math nights.
